When you are considering installing gutters on your Charleston home there are five common concerns when hiring gutter installation professionals. Obviously there are more than than five, but we like to point out these in particular. There is nothing more important than planning when you are considering hiring a gutter professional.
#1 Gutter Estimate Price Ranges
You should be leery of estimates that are substantially higher or lower than other gutter installers. A High estimate could be from a company that has a lot of overhead. Sometimes it could be that they are too busy and it has to be “worth their time” to mess with it. A low estimate could be that you are not getting the same quality. Most of the time when you have a much lower estimate you are getting far less. For example, you may be getting 5″ seamless gutters and not 6″ seamless gutters. Make sure you know what you are getting in writing.
#2 Waiting Until It Is Too Late
Everyone has heard the saying better late than never. In most cases this true, but not always with installing gutters on your home. Not addressing problems when you see them could cause expensive repairs. You may decide not to install gutters on your home, or get a gutter replacement now. Then have to spend money on replacing your soffit & fascia along side installing new gutters.
#3 Getting A Detailed Estimate
Communication is key to any relationship. Knowing exactly what to expect, and when to expect it will ensure a hassle free gutter installation. When having a detailed estimate you also know what is included. One estimate may be just gutters, but another estimate may include gutter guards or gutter cleaning. Asking questions upfront and being clear about what you expect will solve any issues beforehand, and make sure it is clearly written on the estimate.
#4 DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Gutter Installation
Sounds great doesn’t it. Saying to yourself that you will tackle it this weekend and save some money. Unfortunately we all know how that goes. You make a list of what you think you will need and head off to Home Depot. Sunday afternoon rolls around and you still haven’t got up the first gutter. In our experience, the savings on labor sometimes does not offset the cost of materials purchased by an individual homeowner because of the markup.
#5 Knowing What The Problems Are
Having pride in home ownership is great. Wanting to make sure that one of your largest investments is sound and secure is a great idea. When you see a problem you want to fix it. Making sure that installing gutters will fix the issue is an important question to ask a professional. Before you shell out your hard earned cash you want to make sure that the problem you are tying to fix will be solved.
